Product sellers must decide what combination of products and generic or unique goods to provide at the store. Consumers generally are price sensitive and buy off-brands for price benefits. They buy brand names for some of the following reasons-

Experience Counts
Ideally, consumers buy a product for the first time hoping that it will be supreme and provide them a quality experience. They hope a television works efficiently and helps them get access to all the Entertainment and News. They buy food looking for a quality taste with all the nutritional value in it. What makes a brand name more recognized and trust worthy? Consistency in the product quality is the key in the contribution to the evolution of the brand.

Peer acceptance
Whether at colleges, work place or social circles, People have a desire to fit in. For this very same reason, very often people buy brands because they believe the brands will contribute to greater social acceptance. This especially stands true for fashion. Consumers often buy clothing brands that have a pre conceived image of being fashionable, trendy or high class, or that fit into a particular peer group.

Loyalty
Over the time, consumers develop loyalty towards the brands that provide consistency and high-quality experience. Loyalty is an emotional connect to a brand. One reason that it causes some inconvenience to customers at times to spend more for a particular brand. Developing a strong brand image and carrying that desire throughout leads to long-term business benefits.

Personal Image
Just as people have certain characteristics, company or product brands do as well. People buy certain brands to support their personal or professional image. Cutting-edge, tech-savvy consumers, few of them would buy Apple for its seamless technology where as few would prefer buying an android to correlate with a desire to be perceived as "techie."
